WATKINS GLEN, New York (June 21, 2024) — After back-to-back wins at the biggest races on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship calendar, we're is ready to tackle the third round of the 2024 LMP2 season this weekend at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen!
With wins at both the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring together, our trio of Ryan Dalziel, Dwight Merriman, and Connor Zilisch return once again to compete in the next round of the IWSC and the Michelin Endurance Cup.
After our successful start to the season, we currently lead the LMP2 point standings by a gap of 127 points to the current second-place team, and hope to defend and extend this lead as we race six hours straight on the 3.377-mile (5.435 km) Watkins Glen Grand Prix Course.
“The confidence boost we have leading the championship is amazing,” said Dalziel, “but it also means we’ll have quite the target on our backs, probably more than we ever have as a team.”
“The heightened competition this year will definitely make things more difficult for us, but I think we’ve proven already that we’re capable of rising to that level and putting on a great race.”
“Last year we broke a bad luck streak the team had carried at Watkins Glen for a few years, and after our testing, we’re feeling pretty confident in what we’re capable of.”
“The weather looks like it’s going to make things interesting, but I think even in the wet we have a strong team, and everything we need for success.”
Zilisch shared Dalziels excitement for the event stating, “I can’t wait to get on track for the Sahlen’s Six Hours at the Glen! This track has always been one of my favorites because of the high-speed commitment corners.”
“I got the chance to test the LMP2 car there a few weeks ago and felt really comfortable. The team and I obviously have a lot of momentum after the start to the year we’ve had and I’m hoping we can keep that up this weekend!”
A total of 13 cars are racing in our class compared to 2023’s eight, which will make for an exciting class battle at this year’s race.
Last year we managed our highest finish of the season at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen, landing on the second step of the podium at the end of the six-hour race.
After a rain-shortened qualifying session, Merriman started fifth on the grid but immediately set about moving up the field. After six hours of non-stop driving from Merriman, Dalziel, and Christian Rasmussen, the No. 18 finished second under caution while battling for the lead.
Team-owner Kyle Tilley is looking forward to continuing the success Era has seen so far in 2024. “I’m so glad we’re finally back for the Glen!” he said, “The break between Sebring and Watkins gave us a ton of time to work on the car and make sure it's ready for this weekend.”
“We have a fantastic team ready for anything, and after the start to the year we’ve had I’m feeling super confident in the package we’ve put together, and I can’t wait to see how things shake up in what’ll likely be a super wet weekend!”
