Era Motorsport Pursues Redemption at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., (April 27, 2022) – IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race team Era Motorsport continues their quest for the LMP2 class title this weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California. Last year the team, with the driver pairing of Dwight Merriman and Ryan Dalziel, suffered contact from another car while running in second place in the final lap, revoking any hopes of a podium finish. This year, the team will strive for redemption, eager to return to claim the podium spot taken from them last year.

Era’s season started off with an early retirement in the final hour at the ever-challenging Rolex 24 at Daytona, but the team rebounded at the Twelve Hours of Sebring to finish third in the LMP2 class. The Indianapolis-based squad currently sits third in the 2022 LMP2 class point standings, a mere 55 points from the leaders. Six entries are slated to run in the Laguna Seca event, which will host 32 entries in the two-hour, 40-minute race. The six drivers who hold more points than Merriman, Dalziel, and endurance driving addition Kyle Tilley will not compete in the Laguna Seca event, giving the duo of Merriman and Dalziel the opportunity to capture the points lead leaving this week’s race.

This weekend’s event, the Hyundai Monterey SportsCar Championship Presented by Motul, will be the first sprint race of the 2022 season for the LMP2 class. The 2.238-mile road course is a fan favorite of motorsport spectators around the world. The paved circuit sits on the hills of Monterey County, on the central coast of California. It boasts 180 feet in elevation change, providing the perfect canvas for professional race series to host exciting battles.

Four of the five IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar classes will compete in the event, taking the green flag on Saturday, May 1 at 12:10 PM PT. The race will air live stateside in its entirety on NBC, while also streaming on Peacock. Fans outside the U.S. can visit IMSA’s International Coverage page to find local listings.

DRIVER QUOTES

Dwight Merriman

Ryan and I had a really strong run here at Laguna Seca last year, so I know we’ll be strong again this year. The team did a great job getting the car set up for the event, and we’ve made a lot of progress since then. I’m looking forward to getting on track and fighting for a strong finish.

Ryan Dalziel

Coming off a strong Sebring, we are in good shape for Laguna Seca. We had a strong race there in 2021 before being punted off on the last lap, so we know we have a good car. Laguna is always a great track and has some of the best fans, so looking forward to race day.
